Also noteworthy is My Bar, located overlooking the sunset that the resort is aptly named for. My Bar specializes is Indian cuisine, but the menu is varied and the drinks were always refreshing. The only thing negative to be said about Sunset House is that it is not a "luxury" resort.

The boat captains and dive instructors were all top notch (sorry, I'm not that great on remembering names). We also did a few shore dives and one night dive on the house reef. Only issue was the occasionally slow service at the tiki bar. We used the shuttle to go into town one day and the wife used the free bike to ride around a bit.

Best Shark Diving in the world

We dived 3 times a day--two boatdives then we did a night dive, afternoon Kittiwake, and shore divesthe other days. We also rented an underwater camera from Cathy Church.Food was good and we really loved sitting at the restaurant or My-Barwatching the sun go down every evening. Sunset House offers many amenities for the diving and snorkeling enthusiast visiting Grand Cayman island. Before you embark on your underwater odyssey, you must have the essential skills and knowledge needed to explore safely — namely, PADI certification. Punctuality is appreciated, even if the temptation exists to observe a more relaxed ‘island time’. At Sunset House, we love seeing our guests leave having experienced staying at an authentic, family-run dive resort on a cozy Caribbean island. We want you to explore everything Grand Cayman has to offer, so we’re always here to provide tips and recommendations. Located a 15-minute walk south of George Town in a quiet, cruise-ship-free location, we’re perfectly placed on a rocky shoreline renowned for its shore diving. As stewards of the sea, it’s our responsibility to protect and preserve Grand Cayman’s precious marine ecosystems for future generations to enjoy. Sunset House is proud to support local marine conservation efforts, from participating in coral restoration projects to advocating for sustainable diving practices.

We swam out aways before descending to the Landing Craft David Nicholson, where we began the practical part of the lessons. Shortly after we began we were buzzed several times by an Atlantis tourist submarine... After thoroughly shooting the wreck we moved over to some reef shots, then over to the 9' bronze mermaid sculpture of Amphitrite, the consort of Poseidon. This provided a good subject for learning exercises. From here we worked our way back through the reefs towards shore, photographing various corals. After the dive we went back into the classroom where we downloaded my pics to review and discuss the results and the settings and techniques that I used to achieve them.

Grand Cayman is also home to the world’s best 12-foot dive, the legendary Stingray City and USS Kittiwake. Sunset House is located on Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman. It is a dive resort known for its remarkable shore diving, which is why we chose this resort. Marine life was plentiful, including octopuses, sea turtles and large grouper along with the expected tropical fish. The best part of the resort was the staff of the dive shop.

To talk with us directly about any aspect of your stay, please feel free to contact us. You should note that if there are no ships in port (you can seem them from Sunset House) a lot is closed down. Situated atop the Cayman Ridge, a submerged mountain range, and flanked by the abyssal depths of the Cayman Trench, Grand Cayman boasts an unparalleled diversity of marine ecosystems. Before the drop to depths of up to 25,216 feet (7,686 meters) below sea level, narrow island shelves and low-lying limestone platforms extend out from Grand Cayman’s shoreline. This topography creates the perfect environment for coral reef formation. Now for the golden question; where are Grand Cayman’s best dive sites?

Avid divers can do dawn, morning, afternoon and night dives on the hotels very own house reef, in addition to boat dives. This review is actually concerning Cathy Church's photo center which is located at Sunset House. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay at Sunset House as I was the only diver in a family party of six, so we instead rented a 7MB condo through VRBO.

What is the Fast Lane Ticket?

Nice, intimate venue with "mosh pit" style viewing of the stage, as well as VIP seating scattered across the rear and side of venue. Bar staff at the bars (yes, there are multiple) are friendly and definitely do not skimp on the alcohol in the cocktails. Limited menu is offered, but if you are general admission, you are eating standing up. Plenty of security to check you in and ID and wrist band you for alcoholic beverages.

We leverage long term trusted relationships with a network of qualified lenders. There are no songs in this setlist because the concert hasn't started yet. Awesome venue, ac was blasting, no smoking!

But got warm real quick when the bodies started piling in. Not a bad view from wherever you were standing. I saw Alec Benjamin here, and I definitely loved this venue! It could easily fit 3000 people, there were about 2000 the day I was there. Nice lighting effects and good speakers, I could here the audio all the way in the back.

What is NOT allowed into the venue?

Visit the box office on event day for assistance. Investors have different strategies that range from maximizing free cash flow to tax minimization. Dont email the venue if you have any questions, you wont get a response. I called a few times during open hours as well, and nothing.Anyway - Clean VIP club area and bathroom, VIP staff is nice!

Do you have seats at The Fillmore Charlotte or The Underground?

The Fillmore Charlotte has a clear-bag policy, with a maximum size of 12”x6”x12”. Small clutch-size bags are allowed (maximum 4.5”x6.5”). Consult the venue’s website for a complete list of safety guidelines and COVID-19 protocols.

Lots of security inside and out, so it felt safe. They should definitely use some signs once you enter and stand in line, so many people were confused and had to wait for someone to guide everyone. The map below does not reflect availability. Seating charts reflect the general layout for the venue at this time.

Unless otherwise stated we do not have seats for shows as we are a General Admission/Standing Room only concert venue. That said, your tickets will have a seat number and a row number listed (for our internal tracking purposes), however they do not bind you to a certain spot in the venue. A small number of Premium Seats are generally available.

Video taping is not allowed under any circumstances at any show. Any professional video equipment will be confiscated for the remainder of the event. Some artists allow and encourage audio taping at their shows (and have their own policies posted on their websites). There are only a few reasons that I am giving this review four stars, and that's not to indicate that the Fillmore is a bad venue. However, when packing in this many people it can feel a bit crowded and potentially unsafe (though it was not unsafe in any way that I experienced). It would have been an impossible quest to make one's way to the restrooms that were clearly marked on the other side of the completely filled open area.

Thousands of Californians stuck on waitlist for home care help Los Angeles Times

The state will likely put a lien on the house while the resident is living and then attempt to recover the property after the resident has passed away. As a very basic example, say Mom was in a Medicaid-certified nursing home for two years and the state paid the facility $4,000 each month for her care. Once Mom passes away, MERP will file a claim against her estate in the amount of $96,000 ($4,000 x 24 months). If Mom’s house was still in her name at the time of her death, then it will have to be sold to repay the state the $96,000. Any proceeds exceeding the $96,000 can then be distributed in accordance with Mom's will (or the state’s intestate succession laws).

Estates Subject to MERP

After he was wounded in combat, Joseph was stationed at a military base in Massachusetts. There he met and fell in love with Edna Smith-Rhodes, a young woman who had recently moved to Boston from North Carolina. The couple started a family and eventually settled in the brick towers of the Columbia Point housing project. Joseph took a welding job at a shipyard and pressed laundry on the side; later, Edna would put her southern cooking skills to use in a school cafeteria.

An attempt to tackle the problem this year was buried deep within a bill about a very different subject. A casino gambling bill contained a provision allowing gaming profits to go to rural hospitals, which some advocates hoped would be a form of Medicaid expansion. But the casino proposal was gutted and the rural clinic funding went with it. She said rural doctors are facing a crisis in the state because of uninsured and under-insured patients. Nearly 60% of those who'd be covered under Kelly's proposal do work at least 20 hours per week, according to an analysis by the Kansas Health Institute, which seeks to increase health options for Kansans.

Martin, who has been coming every day to the neonatal intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital of Orange County to help care for Connor, is eager to bring him home to Anaheim. "I kind of think the issue was overlooked for the expansion population," Kristina Moorhead, state legislative representative for AARP, one of the few groups that's been paying attention to this issue, said. Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed, you should always confirm this information with the proper agency prior to acting.

The program would be voluntary and is meant to incentivize higher quality care. Medically Needy provides Medicaid eligibility to qualified individuals and families who may have too much income to qualify for regular Medicaid programs. Individuals and families who meet all Medicaid program requirements, except that their income is above those program limits, can spend-down or reduce their income to Medicaid eligibility levels using incurred medical expenses. California officials said they have to show the federal government that the waiver is “cost-neutral,” with average spending per patient no higher than for institutional care for the same kinds of patients. County to ask people if they have insurance that can cover costs for STD tests.

But as discussed in more detail below, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) extended Medicaid eligibility to low-income adults under the age of 65, without regard for asset levels. This has made Medicaid estate recovery more of an issue for some members of the newly-eligible Medicaid population. Understand the ins and outs of insurance to cover the high cost of nursing home care, including when to buy it, how much to buy, and which spouse should get the coverage. Yes, one can sell their home while on Medicaid, but with the risk of losing Medicaid eligibility. Once one’s home has been sold, it is no longer an exempt (non-countable) asset.

The state attempts reimbursement through the deceased's remaining estate, with the home often being the only remaining asset of value. Most states have a limited time wherein they can file for estate recovery, usually within a year of the Medicaid recipient's death. However, program rules are not universal across states, and some operate on different timelines. West Virginia legislators called it “abhorrent” in a federal lawsuit seeking to have it declared unconstitutional. (An appeals court rejected the suit in 2002.) Michigan became the last state to enact recoveries, in 2007, after the federal government threatened to cut its Medicaid funding if it didn’t. Other states opted to collect only high-value assets, or offered exemptions for family farms or estates worth less than a few thousand dollars.

Recipients Need to Know

can medicaid take your house

The specifics depend on the type of services you receive, how old you are, and the state where you live. Except in certain circumstances, Medicaid may put a lien on your house for the amount of money spent on your care. If the property is sold while you are still living, you would have to satisfy the lien by paying back the state. The exceptions to this rule are cases where a spouse, a disabled or blind child, a child under age 21, or a sibling with an equity interest in the house is living there. Medicaid is a public assistance program that provides millions of individuals nationwide with health care coverage. For certain qualifying Medicaid recipients, the program also covers nursing home care.

If you are likely toreturn home after a period of care, or your spouse ordependents live in the home, the state generally cannot take yourhome in order to recover payments. Each state has its own Medicaid program, which means they all also have their own MERP law. For example, a house that you give to someone with a life estate deed or transfer-on-death deed could be subject to MERP depending on your state's law. If my mother stays on Medicaid, the state will almost certainly take our house when she dies; if she transfers it to my or my brother’s name, her Medicaid benefits will be suspended. Unable to afford other insurance options, and unable to go without insurance as a cancer survivor, she has no choice but to remain on the government program. When the house we were renting was sold to another family, we found ourselves on the brink of homelessness, at the mercy of a new landlord willing to rent to a single mother for cheap.

You do not retain legal ownership of this trust property, so MERP can't ask you to use it towards repayment. For many people, owning property is a crucial source of security and status, often marking one’s arrival in the middle class. “It’s the stability of being in a place, of knowing no one’s going to take your house away from you,” McCabe says.

Can Medicaid Take My Home? If I Move? When I Die? From My Spouse?

Vacation homes or other second homes will count against the asset limit. A primary residence doesn’t have to be a single-family home, it can be a condominium, a multi-family home, a mobile home or a houseboat, as long as it is the primary residence of the Medicaid applicant/recipient. In some situations, states can’t recover funds from the value of your house if an adult child who cared for you is living there. But, these rules are complicated, so if you’re relying on this to protect your house from MERP, you’ll need to consult an estate planning professional or get legal advice. If your spouse, a disabled or blind child, a child under age 21, or a sibling with an equity interest in the house lives in your home, the state can't file a lien for reimbursement of Medicaid nursing home expenses. However, once your spouse or dependent relative dies or moves out, the state can try to collect.

What is Medicaid estate recovery?

However, with “Intent to Return”, a nursing home beneficiary may be able to keep a portion of their income as a Home Maintenance Allowance / Home Maintenance Deduction for up to six months to cover their home expenses. For Medicaid beneficiaries who receive long-term care assistance from Medicaid and are 55+ years old at the time of death, a state’s Medicaid agency will file an Estate Recovery claim for reimbursement of home and community based care costs. Once the home is sold, the state will likely collect all or some of the proceeds from the sale as reimbursement.

As proof, the agency sent her a 28-page itemized bill for “every Band-Aid, every can of Ensure” her mother had used. The state gave Tawanda six months to pay the debt in full, after which she would begin accruing interest at a rate of 12 percent. If she couldn’t afford it, the state could force her to sell the Dorchester house and take its share of the proceeds to settle the debt. Oliver and Tawanda had lived a modest but comfortable life in Brooklyn. To renovate the old house, they cashed in all of their savings bonds, about $100,000 worth.

The final insurance policy premium for any policy is determined by the underwriting insurance company following application. Perversely, then, the program punishes neither the affluent nor those with nothing to lose, but working- and middle-class Americans who, despite the odds, have managed to scrape together a little something to pass on to their children. To be clear, home equity interest is the portion of the home’s equity value that the applicant owns minus any outstanding mortgage or debt on the home.

Going without health insurance is a terrible idea, can land you in huge debt that could well force you to raid your assets right away, and make it difficult if not impossible to get timely care if you should fall seriously ill. Fast forward to 2010 and the major expansion of Medicaid in the new health care law. It said absolutely nothing about how estate recovery might work with this new group, which probably includes some people with assets such as a home or retirement account, despite having a low income.

In some states, the Medicaid agency may remove the lien when the Medicaid enrollee dies. In other states, the state can collect on the lien after the Medicaid recipient dies. Check with a qualified estate planning or elder law attorney to see how your local Medicaid agency handles this. Nursing home residents do not automatically have to sell their homes to qualify for Medicaid. However, that does not necessarily mean the house is completely safe from estate recovery.

Why Alabama refuses to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act

Even if the home was solely in the name of the spouse who lived at home (the community spouse), the institutionalized spouse could inherit the home via “intestate succession”. This is when a spouse dies without a valid will and the deceased’s assets are passed onto the living spouse. If this happens, the home will be counted as an asset and the institutionalized spouse will be disqualified for Medicaid until the home is sold and the proceeds “spent down” on care. The Child Caregiver Exemption allows a Medicaid applicant or recipient to transfer ownership of their house to a qualifying adult child to keep the home exempt from the asset limit without violating any Medicaid rules. Stepchildren, foster children, nieces, nephews and other family members are not eligible for this exemption.

If you are single and pass, with no underage (under 21) children or children with disabilities living in the home, Medicaid can try to use a home sale to recoup the money spent on long-term care. But, as stated above, if you do have a minor child or child with a disability living in the house, the state cannot reimburse costs with estate recovery. Furthermore, since the rules involving Estate Recovery are state-specific, what may protect a home in one state doesn’t necessarily protect it in another state. If a home is in a Lady Bird Deed, a type of life estate deed, it will not go through probate. With a Lady Bird Deed, a Medicaid recipient maintains ownership of their home while they are living. Upon their death, home ownership is automatically transferred to another person, often the deceased’s child. Some states only seek Medicaid Estate Recovery through probate, and in these states, there are ways for a Medicaid recipient to keep their home out of probate. Probate is a legal process that involves checking the validity of one’s will, determining the value of the deceased’s assets, and paying any remaining taxes and bills.

There are some exceptions in which the state cannot attempt Estate Recovery. This includes having a child who is under 21 years old or a child of any age who is disabled or blind. Absolutely yes, even if you live in one of the states that may raid your estate when you die. If your income qualifies you for Medicaid, you aren't eligible to get tax credits to buy private insurance.

The proceeds from the sale will count towards Medicaid’s asset limit, which is generally $2,000. This, more likely than not, will put a Medicaid recipient over the asset limit and will result in disqualification until the extra assets (the assets over Medicaid’s limit) have been “spent down”. The proposal would also help people get quicker access to Medicaid so they can receive care at home. Legislators recommended creating a presumptive eligibility program, in which case managers and social workers use screening tools and financial information to swiftly determine if a person qualifies for Medicaid and to offer services. I know this because I've spent the last couple of weeks chasing down information from those states and have heard back from all but three of them. Transferring the title to the community spouse entirely is the best way to protect your house from estate recovery.

Careful planning for potentially devastating long-term care costs can help protect your estate, whether for your spouse or for your children. In addition to nursing home care, Medicaid may cover home care and some care in an assisted living facility. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts recommended the state Legislature pass a law that would prohibit those additional collections.

“You’ve made it, earned your independence through hard work.” This is especially true among those for whom that dream has always been far out of reach, such as low-income and nonwhite Americans. In a 2018 study in the journal Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, McCabe found that Latinos and African Americans were twice as likely as white Americans to consider social status an important reason to buy a home. “When you’ve historically been excluded from this thing that is centrally American, the ability to achieve it is that much more meaningful,” he says. Homeownership is one of the greatest catalysts of class mobility in America.
